ใยตาลหรือใยโหนด คือ เส้นใยที่ได้จากโคนทางตาลโตนดตั้งแต่ส่วนที่ทางตาลเริ่มแยกออกเป็น 2 แฉกคล้ายปีกนก ถึงโคนทางซึ่งโอบรัดติดอยู่กับลำต้น เรียกว่า ทางตาลโตนด ส่วนนี้ว่า “กาบโหนด” ลักษณะของกาบโหนดแยกถ่างออกคล้าย ขากรรไกรเรียกว่ากาบโหนด โดยจะเลือกเอาแต่ทางของตาลต้นหนุ่ม นำเอากาบตาลส่วนดังกล่าวมาทุบแล้วดึงเป็น “เส้นใย ” กาบโหนดแต่ละอันจะมีเส้นใย 3 สี คละปนกัน คือ สีขาว น้ำตาล และสีดำ ต่างกันตามความอ่อนแก่ของเส้นใย มีความเหนียวและทนทาน เหมาะที่จะเลือกใช้สอยและประดิษฐ์ลายตามธรรมชาติเป็นเครื่องจักสานที่ทำด้วยใยตาลว่า “หัตถกรรมใยตาล”
